2012 Food Executive Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What airport should I fly into?

A: Jet service to/from the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport in Ithaca, New York, is provided by US Airways and Northwest Airlines. This modern airport is located only 10 minutes from the Cornell University campus. We will be happy to arrange for the Statler Hotel's courtesy van to pick you up at the Ithaca airport. After we receive your completed Travel Information Form, we will confirm your reservation at the Statler Hotel and arrange for the van to pick you up at the Ithaca Airport. If you don't see the Statler van upon arrival - call 257-2500 - they'll be there shortly.

You may also fly into the Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York. This airport, which is serviced by several major airlines, is located approximately 60 miles from Ithaca. Transportation to the Cornell University campus can be arranged by calling the Airport Limousine Service at least one week in advance (607.273.3030). The cost is $90 one-way; $110 round trip. You can also rent a car in Syracuse and drive to Ithaca. See Travel to and from Cornell University for travel directions.

Q: What time do I need to arrive on Tuesday, July 15?

A: The Food Executive Program begins on Tuesday evening, July 12, with a reception and dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. You should therefore plan to check into the Statler Hotel before 6:00 p.m.

Q: What if I need to arrive before July 15?

A: We have a small block of rooms reserved for July 14 - so please let us know as soon as possible if you need one of the rooms for Monday night. The room charge for Saturday night ($168 + tax) will be your responsibility, as it is not covered by the tuition. Please indicate on the Travel Information Form (Assignments section) if you will be arriving early and we will inform the Statler Hotel.

Q: What time does the program conclude on July 20?

A: The program concludes on Friday, July 20 at noon. A boxed lunch will be provided.

Q: Do I need to make a room reservation?

A: No, we have a block of rooms set aside at the Statler Hotel and will provide them with a room list. When we receive your Travel Information Form we will contact the Statler with your arrival and departure information.

Q: Do I need to rent a car?

A: No. We usually have enough other participants that drive to Ithaca or prefer to have a car available. We encourage car pooling in the evenings to go to local restaurants, etc. If you drive, there is a parking fee ($12.00 per day). Ithaca is a small town and easy to get around.

Q: What is the dress?

A: Dress for the program, including the receptions and dinners, is business casual. (Please remember to bring sportswear for any recreational activities you may choose to participate in: jogging, volleyball, golf, basketball).

Q: Do I need to bring my laptop?

A: You will not be required to use your laptop computer during the program. You may wish to bring it with you, however, to access your e-mail, complete homework assignments, and take notes.

Q: Does the hotel have internet connections?

A: The guest rooms at the Statler Hotel are equipped with high-speed internet service.

Q: Does the Statler Hotel provide laundry/dry cleaning service?

A: Both laundry and dry cleaning services are available. In addition, the Statler Hotel also provides room service, valet service, a gift shop/newsstand, fax service, hotel safe deposit boxes, guest telephones with voice mail, and complimentary transportation to and from the Ithaca/Tompkins County Airport.

Q: Can I bring my spouse?

A: We do not recommend that you bring your spouse. You will be busy with the program from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day, with several hours each evening spent on classwork and reading assignments.
